An open rate is a lie (and other campaign metrics that hide the truth)
Open rate feels like proof, but it's one of the shallowest signals you have. Real campaign tracking compares channel, audience, and message so you know what actually converted.

Open rate is the vanity metric everyone quotes and almost nobody understands. “We got 68% opens!” Cool. Did anyone buy? Did anyone reply? Did the right people open it, or did your mom open it because she always opens everything?
Open rate tells you one thing: the subject line worked. That’s it. It tells you nothing about whether the campaign did its job.
The metrics that actually mean something
What you want is the chain: sent → opened → clicked → acted. Each step filters the last. A campaign with a great open rate and a terrible click rate isn’t winning; it’s got a catchy subject and a boring body.
And you want to compare, not just count. A WhatsApp promo at 68% open and 24% click is a different animal from an email reminder at 52% open and 18% click. One is better at reaching; the other at converting. Which do you scale? Depends on the goal — and you can only have that conversation if you can see both.
Tracking should be boring and complete
The unsexy requirement is that every campaign shows up in one table with status, channel, audience, sent, open, click. No switching tools. No “I think the WhatsApp one did better.” You look, you know.
Then the real work starts: you change the message, you change the audience, you watch the numbers move. That’s marketing. The dashboard just has to get out of the way and show you the truth.
If your campaigns live in three different apps and you’re deciding by memory, you’re not optimizing. You’re guessing with extra steps.
KIRA.id tracks every campaign by channel, audience, and rate in one place. See the marketing & sales feature or email hello@kira.id to see tracking in action.
